KIMPTON LEADS THE PACK WITH PET-FRIENDLY PERKS AND CANINE CARE
The scene unfolds as a Los Angeles-based business traveler checks in to Chicago’s Hotel Burnham with
her dog Ozzie. The hotel’s four-legged “Director of Pet Relations” greets them with a welcome snack and
friendly sniff as their room awaits, stocked with a comfy doggie bed, feeding bowls, and Ozzie’s favorite
treats. While the traveler is hard at work, Ozzie is entertained by his brand new chew toy, compliments of
Dillon and takes a nap on his personal bed. After a long day of meetings, the guest returns to her hotel to
find her sweet pup awakening from an afternoon nap, ready to embark on an evening adventure to the
local dog park.
Despite an ailing economy, the pet industry is still on the rise with the American Pet Products
Association estimating that in 2009, Americans will spend an approximate $45.4 billion on their
pets - a $2.2 billion increase from what households with pets shelled out in 2008. Pet-friendly
establishments like Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, the largest boutique hotel company in the
U.S., are leading the pack in catering to furry friends hitting the road. From pampering
packages to complimentary amenities, Kimpton, known for its progressive and humanitarian
approach to guest care, has always welcomed pets of all shapes and sizes for no additional
charge.
All of Kimpton’s nearly 50 hotels across the country extend a paw to four-legged friends with
unique packages, furry freebies and insider information about nearby parks, dog sitting, walking
and grooming services, special doggie bakeries, and pet-friendly restaurants.
“We have always respected the emotional connection between pets and their human
companions and know that taking your pet with you on the road can create a more memorable
travel experience,” said Steve Pinetti, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Kimpton

Hotels & Restaurants. “Our creative packages and complimentary amenities add value to each
guest’s hotel stay and ultimately set the stage for stress-free pet travel.”
Pet guests are able to get advice straight from the pooch’s mouth at many Kimpton hotels that
employ four-legged “Directors of Pet Relations.” These key personnel welcome guests with an
enthusiastic wag, helm the concierge desk offering suggestions for local pet-friendly hot spots,
graciously host the complimentary evening wine hour, make celebrity appearances at events for
animal organizations, and provide inspiration for Kimpton’s pet services and amenities.
A few examples of pet packages and over-the-top amenities at Kimpton hotels include:
• Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge offers a package including a doggie bed or scratching post
for cats. Both cats and dogs receive a basket of gourmet treats and cozy fleece blanket.
Animals celebrating a birthday will also receive a cake from Polka Dog Bakery.
• Four-legged guests at Hotel Allegro in Chicago receive star treatment with a bed, food
and water bowls, plus a “sWAG bag” including water, snacks, and a keepsake leash.
Human companions receive a copy of Dog Massage: A Whiskers-to-Tail Guide to Your
Dog’s Ultimate Petting Experience. $5 per reservation is also donated to the Anti-
Cruelty Society of Chicago.
• New York bound dogs can take Manhattan in style at 70 park avenue hotel by booking
the pet package including a stylish doggie bed, basket with treats and toys, dog
umbrella, logo dog bone, and for ultimate pampering - a doggie manicure and pedicure.
• At the EPIC Hotel in Miami, beyond the necessities like a pet bed, bowls and chew toys,
dogs and their human companions also receive a stuffed toy welcome gift, plus a choice
of two of the following services: “Pawdicure & Shampoo” treatment, one hour of daily
play time, one hour of dog walking at Flamingo Bark Park, or massage for two humans.
Companions also receive continental breakfast for two in the restaurant daily.
Since the company’s inception in 1981, Kimpton has been host to many unique pet guests from
a pet Iguana named “Slim,” at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, to contestants for
the Westminster Kennel Club competition at 70 park avenue hotel in New York. Other unusual
pet guests have included an aardvark, an albino kangaroo, an anteater, an armadillo, a bear, a
condor, a baby cougar, a flamingo, an ibises, a lemur, penguins, a sloth, and a warthog.
Travelers without furry friends can opt for Kimpton’s Guppy Love at 22 of Kimpton’s Hotels,
where guests can borrow a fishy friend for the duration of their stay. This complimentary

“borrowed” friend is ideal for travelers that miss their pets at home or are in need of some extra
comfort. Guests are free to enjoy stress-free bonding throughout their stay, while hotel staff
members take care of feeding and taking care of Guppy Love goldfish.
Many Kimpton hotels have partnered with local animal shelters and rescue organizations to help
animals in need by hosting fundraising events and donating a portion of room revenue for
guests traveling with pets to such organizations.
